Description

  The DC motor is a type of electric motor that is powered by direct current electricity. It consists of a rotor that rotates in a magnetic field created by the stator.

  It is a simple device consisting of a rotating shaft (called the armature) that has an electromagnet at one end and a wire coil wrapped around it. The armature is attached to the rotor which is mounted on bearings so that it can spin freely inside the stator.

  The stator is made up of two parts:

  • Windings which are coils that generate electricity when they are electrified with an alternating current, and
  • Stationary magnets that provide a magnetic field for the armature to rotate within.
